Scott Slay

Name: Scott Slay | Hometown: Norfolk, VA | Americana, Folk, Rockish Artist

What can we say? Scott's from Pensacola, Florida. He started playing when he was six and traded practice time for He-Man action figures from his father. He picked up guitar shortly after and started playing to impress girls. Influenced early by bluegrass gods Tony Rice and Sam Bush, Scott started playing their music at folk and bluegrass concerts all about the Gulf Coast.

As he grew older, his experience in music began to gain some variety. He started playing with various bands around the South and when he was eight, he even played with Highway 99, a pretty sweet bluegrass band from down South. When he grew older, he threw electric bass into the mix and started playing at festivals and competing in fiddlers' conventions and bluegrass competitions. He won a stack of awards for his Mandolin playing and crazy Guitar skills. After playing a while with the Dog River Boys, he put himself through college giving lessons to the young and old and eventually got the opportunity to play with a lot of very talented musicians. Recently he's been writing music for his first indie album and has a total of 24 years of experience playing music for crowds of 3,000 and up.

You can normally catch Scott playing as a solo act, with a group in the Rail Project, and with local and nationally famous musicians such as Karl Werne (frontman for Big Wide Grin bigwidegrin.com& karlwerne.com), Grand Ole' Opry's Charlie Austin, Singer/Songwriter Logan Vath, Larry Berwald, Electric Blues & Dobro master Ben Lassiter, James Adkins with his band James and Some Names from Pensacola (jamesadkinsmusic.com), Nashville Country Star Katie Rogers, and IBMA nominee and The Likely Culprits' front man Brandon Bostick.

Remember those awards? A few of note include:

1st Place Mandolin, 3rd Place Guitar @ S. Alabama Fiddlers' Convention 2011
1st Place Mandolin, 1st Place Guitar @ S. Alabama Fiddlers' Convention 2010

1st Place Mandolin Master's Division @ Florida Bluegrass Competition 2010

Scott is a huge fan of Chris Thile, The Punch Brothers, Dave Matthews Band, Weezer, Alison Krauss & Union Station, Mumford & Sons, The Last Bison, Deer Tick, and surprisingly, Bruno Mars.

Scott loves to play all kinds of events such as hosting open mics, entertaining bars, opening acts, bluegrass jams and pickin' parties, and.. ...even hot tub parties.
